Former Sacramento Sports Journalist under Warm Water

Former News10 sports anchor Dana Jacobson is under warm water after making an inappropiate reference to Norter Dame. In a statement, Jacobson said, "I am sorry. My remarks about Notre Dame were foolish and insensitive. I respect all religions and did not mean anything derogatory by my poorly chosen words. I also deeply regret the embarrassment I've caused ESPN and Mike and Mike. Jacobson will be off air for about a week

New Segment!

A new segment has arrived to my blog site. Its News Bloopers which are video clips uploaded online of interesting things that happens during live on-air TV newscast.

First off this week we start close to home, Former morning/ noon Meteorologist Patty Souza at KCRA NBC 3-TV in Sacramento might have not thought she was on-air when doing the update or she made two-takes but the operater missed play the correct video. Souza accidentally says "I just don't know what i'm doing". Now most national network stations across the U.S let local stations air their local weather forecast during their weather update. This definitely does not show Patty's professional work, she is one of the experienced and great Meteorologist to get your forecast from, and KXTV is lucky to have her =)

Update's!

Andrew Luria, comes to the CBS 13 sports team from KCOY-TV a CBS affiliate in Santa Barbara, Ca. You can catch him on the weekends from 11 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on CBS13 right after the news at 10. He debuted his appearence on Sunday, Jan. 20th, 2008 along with Aarrn Anderson. The intro of the show sunday night was hilarious when Luria walked into the Newsroom and Anderson's mouth dropped in awe.


Also weekend Morning anchor/ weekday reporter Taryn Winter Brill leaves Sacramento Thursday Jan. 31st as she annouced on the one of the Saturday morning broadcast. She will be moving to New York her home state to be closer to her family will most likely get a job in the same field. Kelly Chapman is now taking over her spot along with Cody Stark, Brill can be catch now reporter early in the mornings during the weekend show.


Kye Martin has left FOX40, and has moved to Chicago, IL after she recently got married.

A Search for more Breast Cancer Screening Programs

From State Lawmakers to Celebrities all came to California's State Capitol for one thing, to urge Legislation to create programs for Breast Cancer screening's made available to underserved women.

The event took place Thursday evening Jan. 17th, 2008 with special guest Ricardo Chavira also known as Tony Parker from ABC's Desperate Housewifes that first aired in October 2004. Former CBS News’ The Early Show Anchor Rene Syler, breast cancer advocate and Sacramento native who graduated from Del Campo High School in Fair Oaks, Ca. And former WNBA player Edna Campbell who spoke at the rally about her personal experiences as a breast cancer survivor.


Chavira spoke about his experiences as a teenager when his mother was struggeling with breast and ovarian cancer in the mid-80s. His mother Elizabeth Chavira died at the age of 43 when Ricardo was 15 in 1986. He is also San Antonio's honorary spokesman for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and last June served as the National Team Captain for the Race for the Cure in Washington, D.C. Syler spoke about her tough decision to undergo bi-lateral prophylactic mastectomy in early 2007, in part because interestingly her parents were both diagonsed with breast cancer.


Including other people who attended were Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, Assemblywoman Patty Berg, and Assemblyman Roger Niello, all voiced support for closing the healthcare gaps that cause breast cancer to be deadlier for low-income women, minorities and the uninsured.

New Weather Anchor in Town!

FOX40 News has hired the newest edition to their team. Rosemary Orozco comes back to home here in Sacramento from KEY-TV in Santa Barbara, California. You can catch Orozco along with Natalie Bomke, Evan Michael and reporter Jamie Soriano weekday mornings from 6 a.m.-8 a.m. She debuted her appearence on Weds. Jan 16th, 2008.

The News10 Web Center in their newsroom is currently undergoing through a remodeling process.

"We're building a new assignment desk (we're calling it the connection
desk because it's about connecting to the community) so that it's closer
to the Web Center. We're also building an area for multimedia
journalists to plug in their cameras and laptops when they return from the
field. I also think I heard something about a new anchor desk. I don't know
what the plan is for that.

If you've watched anyone do something from the Web Center lately,
you'll notice the lighting's a little off and the camera angle is kind of
funky. That's because the talent is standing in a construction zone. In
fact, often there's an electrician or construction guy standing just
off-camera waiting to get back to work." According web producer Elizabeth Bishop.

So we'll wait and see what surprise News10 will revealed to us in the near future.

Did you know?

Most stations now days have a mini TV screen right underneath the teleprompter so the anchor can see what video is playing or what the reporter might be talking about during their package. TV screens can commonly be found underneath the desk next to a computer screen or on a TV stand behind the cameras, BUT since KCRA debuted their new HD set nearly 1-year ago...A TV flat screen which is located right on top holded from a bar to the celling is designed specially for what the camera is viewing. For example, if an anchor is at the desk it only shows their face which is a good idea if part of their hair is sticking up (thats why there are makeup rooms). But I find it very interesting! And this picture taken earlier last year, if you look up you can see the behind of the TV screen right near the studio lighting.

Media Comes to the State Capitol

Gov. Schwarzenegger tuesday afternoon annouced his plans for a $14 billion budget deficit in his fifth State of the State address. The governor blamed the shortfall not on reduced revenues, which he says are steady, but on a built-in 7.3 percent spending increase in state programs.


Media from across California came to the Capitol to get critical response from Democrats. We'll see if if everything goes out as planned.

1. What interest you to get into TV news?
I've always had an interest in TV, Radio and Movies since I was very young. I was especially interested in TV news in 1999 while in college when I understood that working in news, you really have the opportunity to inform your community of important issues that may have an impact on their daily lives.

2. What are your favorite TV Shows?
News10 Good Morning, ESPN SportsCenter, NFL Network, The George Lopez Show, Dog Whisperer, Snoop Dogg's Fatherhood.

3. What is your favorite type of music/ band or artist?
Huge Michael Jackson fan! Hip Hop ( Kanye West, Immortal Technique, Diddy), Spanish Rock (Mana), anything I can dance to.

4. What is your favorite type of food/ dessert?
I love Japanese food! I can eat it almost everyday! Seafood kicks butt too! Crab, Shrimp, Mahi Mahi, Scallops! I recently had Tapas at "Tapa the World" excellent European food. Indian food is great, Italian feasting is something I partake in…. And….you can never go wrong with Mexican food. Oh and Dessert…ICE CREAM and Flan (Mexican pudding)

5. If you could travel anywhere around the world where would you go and why?
I NEED to get my butt to Europe ASAP! I've heard nothing but great things about that place. Spain, France, Italy, etc. My fiancé was there with her family a few years ago and she loved it. Spain is very simple yet fast paced. When you need to get somewhere, you usually walk. Suits me well since I'm a busy body. The food is great and the restaurants are intimate. The coffee is superb and creamy! The people are beautiful. So I hear.

6. What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you during live TV?
During a traffic report I forgot the name of a road where an accident was. As I sat there, LIVE, and mumbling "Um, Uh, Um Uh" I think I followed with
" Well, I'll have to get back to you on that one" DUMB

7. What is an interesting/ unique fact about you?
I recorded a 14 track CD called "The Bounce." I wrote/produced/performed 13 tracks. I completed it right before I went into TV so I never pressed it up and distributed it. Interesting huh?

8. If you were not working in the TV business...What would you be doing today?
Either music or some type of Social Service work. I love helping troubled youth.

9. Who is your role model and why?
Grandpa is my Role Model. My Grandfather Robert Castro really taught me how to be a man. From a very young age he instilled in me lifelong lessons of responsibility, respect and work ethic. To this day, he continues to teach me the little things in life that make a huge difference.

Do everything Patrick is doing!!!! Ask Questions, Intern, Network, build relationships and meet people in the field, GET YOUR FEET IN ANY WAY YOU CAN!!

Blue On The Tower

Blue will be up for then next couple of days as the next batch of storm rolls on it. Its expected to not be worst as what Nor Cal saw last week. But after this last storm we can expect freezing nights with sunny mornings and afternoons with temperature's in the 50s.

Backyards Revealed

Last week was one of the most destructible storms Northern California has seen in years and it left most residental owners with fences down, tree branches stacterd in the roadways and caused thousands of dollars spent across the Sacramento greater area cleaning up tree branches. Winds went up to 60-70 mph and was just a horrible Friday to go out and about. This 90's Toyota was along Capital Blvd. in Mid-town Sacramento along an apartment complex. This was also a very good way to meet your behind neighboors.



News10's Alicia Malaby did a report in East Sacramento about a tree that fell on top of a home along Folsom Blvd near Alhambra which wasn't a surprise across the county.

A lot of people have told me where are all these new people coming from? That is because recently TV stations have been doing a lot of hiring for replacement reasons. So far three people have joined the Sacramento team, heres a look!

Local Reporter Heads to CNN

Rafer Weigel currently a general assignment reporter will be leaving to CNN to start reporting for the sports segment sometime in February. Weigel's last report in Sacramento will be Tuesday Jan. 29th, 2008 so you have plently of time to send in your good-bye e-mails.

Coincidentally he will be taking over Will Selva's spot former local sports anchor who anchored at News10 from March 2003-March 2005 (Now in Atlanta, Georgia ESPN).


Interestingly Weigel appeared in a 1998 low-budget film released by Anchor Bay Entertainment starring the infamous Eric McCormack from NBC's show Will & Grace.
The film won four awards including the 2000 Saturn Award for Best Home Video Release. A new 2-disc DVD special edition Free Enterprise: Extended "Five Year Mission" Edition was released on March 7, 2006.
