Last night News10 debuted their new set and went in High Definition. Here are a couple pictures, more on their facebook page. There are still some equipment used on the set from the previous one, but overall it's a new look for them. It slightly reminds me of KUSA's Denver's set and KING-TV's from Seattle.

Finally, News10 is getting a chance broadcast in High Definition. The HD package includes a brand new set which will reflect on our community, they will still continue to broadcast field reports in standard definition digitall, the CG graphics will slighty change because of the 16x9 format, and no word yet if new music is included, and according to the president of News10, they will have the most dynamic 3D weather graphics in the market. But for now this is a big and exciting change for News10 and it's long time viewers. We can expect to see the change in just a few weeks now in mid-December... a great way to go into 2010. But for now, all newscast will be broadcast from the Information Center in the newsroom. (personally, I would like to see more breaking news coverage)

FX Group is the creator of News10's Set

FX Group has been chosen to design News10's set and in just a few days it will debt on News10 at 11! Just a few days ago, anchors went shopping with consultants to find outfits that will best suit the colors of the set and they also have done some practicing with the anchors on lighting and camera shots. Below are a few examples of what we can expect to see for the new set. Some interesting fact's... FX also brought in KCRA's HD set almost three years ago, so they all pretty much look the same. And usually sets are transfered to city to city.

November Sweeps

November - traditionally the top TV ratings month - proved to be a good one for KCRA 3, which maintained its usual spot on top the local news rankings as reported by Nielsen.

November, because of weather and sweeps programming outside the news hours, tends to draw more viewers, leading broadcasters to compare year to year, rather than November to July, when viewership was much lower at every time slot.

Though other stations continue to challenge KCRA, it still has the best numbers when measured in average numbers of households watching during five time frames: 6-7 a.m., mid-day news, 5-5:30 p.m. newscasts, 6-6:30 p.m. shows and late news - shows appearing between 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

KCRA saw its greatest dominance in evening news, with 118,900 households at 5 p.m. and 104,400 at 6 p.m. Those numbers represent averages throughout the sweeps month, which went from Oct. 29 to Nov. 25.

At 6 p.m. KCRA was followed by KXTV 10 with 41,100 viewers, KOVR 13 with 35,800 viewers and KUVS 19 (Univision) with 31,300 viewers.

Other stations continue to pose their biggest challenges to the leader in the late news bracket.

KOVR, which broadcasts at 10 p.m. and therefore doesn't go head-to-head with KCRA's main late news at 11 p.m., got 57,500 viewers to KCRA's 62,600.

Those two were followed by KTXL 40 (Fox) with 38,600 at 10 p.m., KXTV with 35,900 at 11 p.m., KQCA 58 (KCRA's sister station) with 21,800 at 10 p.m. and KUVS with 18,700 at 11 p.m.

Weather Tower Getting "TLC"

After 10 years of the beating sun, and rain... The News10 Weather Tower is slowly getting retouched. In 2007, I wrote about this problem and finally I'm glad it's getting taken care of. As of now most of the lights do not work on the tower... including the color indicator on the top.

Switching Over...

Reporter Suzanne Phan is now freelancing for News10! It was kind of a shock for me to see her on Monday reporting for News10 from the Auburn fire aftermath. Suzanne had been with KCRA since 2000 and graduated from UC San Diego.

And Louisa Hodge is now reporting for News10. I was surprised to see her today at 5 p.m. If you remember she was over at Fox40. Who knows, since Louisa has weather experience she could be replacing someone's position in the future for weather.

Patty resigns/ Gannett

I found this out moments it was posted online Tuesday night, but I'm getting a chance to write about it just now.

Patty Souza has been in Sacramento for 7 years, and at News10 for 3 years. Earlier this week she made a difficult decision to leave the station stating that she was going pursue other interests and life dreams. However, she plans to stay in Sacramento. Also, I just thought I write this too.

The owner company of News10, Gannett has been going through some problems financially. It's one of the reasons why most of the News10 staff have left because of lower salaries and everyone having to do double the work. Gannett owns 12 TV stations in the U.S. and only 7 stations are airing their news broadcast in high definition. News10, is not one of them. In the past Gannett's profits went down and were forced to layoff a few thousand employee's. However, they are still considered one of the largest newspaper publishers in the country. Hopefully things will turn around for Gannett sooner or later.

Newcomers to Sacramento!

Mae Fesai, newest on-air talent at KCRA. She anchors and reports when needed usually in the mornings. She comes from KSBW in the Salinas/ Monterey market.

Nick Monacelli is new t0 News10, he comes from WZZM-TV in Grand Rapids, MI. The same station where Tim Geraghty (News10 news director) came from.

Kenny Lopez joins FOX40 from KVEO-23 in Brownsville, Texas. He is one of the youngest reporters I've seen in this market. I'm guessing 24?

Neda Iranpour joins CBS 13 as a general assignment reporter from Reno, Nevada.

Amanda Sanchez comes from the ABC affiliate in Las Vegas, Nevada. She will take over Anny Hong's position... which was weather anchoring/ and reporting. As for Anny, from what I've heard she's moved to Paris. But have no other information than that. I will definitely update this when I do.

Her name is Laura Skride, and she comes from the NBC affiliate in Austin, Texas! Se will be 'weathering' the forecast Weekdays on CBS 13 from 5-7 a.m. and at noon as well. A little bit about Laura, she graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in the mid 90s and earned her Certificate of Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University in the early 2000's.

News10 has hired a new freelance reporter! Her name is Patricia Kakridas and she comes from the NBC affiliate in Decatur, IL where she co-anchored. Patricia graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Political Science and Communications. She's a local! And was a producer/ write for FOX40. An interesting fact she speaks Greek and Spanish! Welcome Patricia

Ben Deci joins FOX40 from ABC in Las Vegas where we worked mainly as an investigative reporter. He graduated from the University of Michigan.

Ama Daetz joins FOX40 as a fill-in anchor from WDIV in Detroit! She's a native from San Jose and graduated from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

Angel Cardenas is officially doing traffic for News10 Good Morning. Melissa Crowley, who had done traffic for the show since November 2001, is going to continue to focus on hosting Sacramento & Company along with Guy Ferris. 4 years ago this month, the show went on air taking over what the Midday show used to do... i.e cooking segments, interviews.

According to her Twitter page she was on leave and will be back shortly! They had to call Harry Stockman (freelance meteorologist, who also used to work for News10 in the past back in).

A Mini Switch

KCRA has decided to switch anchor's Chris Riva and Teo Torres to each other's positions. Teo for sometime anchored the weekend night editions of the newscast and reported a few days a week. Chris Riva anchored the My58 segments weekdays and also reported as well. Now, Chris is doing the weekends and Teo is co-anchoring with Deirdre.

And! Walt Gray is back to anchoring the noon newscast solo!

After winning an online contest where viewers nationwide voted for her... San Francisco TV Journalist Janelle Wang got to co-host the Regis & Kelly show on Tuesday August 18th in New York. On the show Wang talked about what she plans to do next in the future and expressed how San Francisco will always be her home. Wang gave Regis a signed 49ers Joe Montana jersey as a gift and later interviewed actor James Spader.

Wang currently co-host ABC 7's "The View from the Bay" which airs weekdays at 3 p.m. along with Spencer Christian who used to forecast the weather on ABC's Good Morning America in the mid-late 90s.

Interview goes wrong on Good Day Sacramento

A live interview on Good Day Sacramento with Joan Rivers did not go so well after entertainment reporter Mark S. Allen accidentally made Rivers upset after making a joke about her daughter. Rivers then decided to end the interview and said the F word on air. Everything went by quickly towards it end, it almost seemed like it was edited. Remember Jeff Raineri? Jeff worked at KCRA for a few years as the weekend morning meteorologist and left in 2005 to MSNBC and NBC Weather Plus to forecast on national TV. If you watch KCRA constantly, then you probably have noticed a few unfamilar meteorologist's. Jeff Martinez is the newest member to join the Weather Plus team. He currently appears on the weekend morning editions and will fill in during the work week. He freelanced for KCRA back in 2005 for a while, and recently came from ABC in San Francisco where he freelanced as well.

Some changes at News10

Jennifer Smith, long time news anchor has stepped down from the Midday and Sunday night shows to a Multimedia Journalist position. She will on occasion fill-in anchoring, but her main duties will be to go out and report on stories. Also, according to some sources she is expected to retire sometime next year.

Cristi Jessee, one of News10's first Multimedia Journalist has decided to take a position as news director in Minnesota. Her last day will be on August 3rd.

News10's Nicole Chavez and Gregg Lalka will be leaving the station. They both joined in 2005 and will be headed to the central coast of California. They both are engaged and met while working together in Reno, NV.

Deborah Hoffman left the station in early July to work as the Communications Director for Senator Fran Pavley at the State Capitol. And yes, thats my arm.

So we can expect a few new faces at News10 in the Fall.

News10, only hiring Multimedia Journalist!

Since 2008, News10 has decided to take an approach to have every reporter shoot, edit, write their own stories instead of having 'crews' go out. Stacy Owen, former news director at News10 decided to take this path before she left the station earlier this year. KRON 4 in San Francisco also does the same thing and it's where Stacy Owen came from before joining News10.

So how does this all work? The reporters get assigned a story at the beginning of their shift, they grab a camera that is smaller from a regular field camera, and go off to shoot their interviews and "b-roll". Once they finish, they return back to write and edit their story and once it's time for a live shot, they go out with an actual photographer into the field. Usually, the photographers go out to the breaking news stories and if the story is huge, they will dispatch a reporter right away. Normally, if it's big like a protest or capitol budget story, both photog's and the reporter will be there. Slowly, more and more stations are doing this. FOX40 is looking to hire a few Multimedia Journalist, and when most reporters start off out from college they are required to do the whole shanagans.

Lisa Ling will be in Sacramento Thursday July 9th for a vigil that will be held at the State Capitol to bring her sister Laura Ling, and Euna Lee of "Current TV" back home from North Korea after being arrested and sentenced for 12 years of "Harbor Labor". Lisa was featured Live_Online on News10.net discussing the event at the capitol and answering viewer questions. Moments after, she did a live interview outside the News10 studios for KCRA's 6:30 pm newscast.

Mike Bond recently left FOX40 in May. He still plans to stay in Sacramento.

Edmundo Aguliar, CBS13 Stockton bureau reporter's contract was up and was not renewed. Andrea Menniti, is now covering stories in the Stockton area.

Amity Addrisi, is currently freelancing for FOX40.

Danny Pommels contract was not renewed, KCRA is decided to shorten their sports staff.

Rick Boone is now co-anchoring the weekends with Terri Cox at FOX40, Joe Orlando is now working on the FOX40 Live Morning Show.

New News Director

Gannett, the owner of News10, recently picked Tim Geraghty from the ABC affiliate in Grand Rapids, Michigan to be the vice president and information director for News10.

"My family and I are excited to go to Sacramento," Geraghty stated in a news release. "I am looking forward to connecting with my new community and leading the News 10 Information Center. Geraghty is expected to start in late May.

As for Stacy Owen, former News director (2005-2009) she recently started her own company in Sacramento.... "Owen Media Group" which is a multimedia consulting company.

Call Kurtis Story Goes to Judge Judy....

A wedding is suppose to be a special day to remember, but that wasn't the case for a Roseville couple. The only thing their guest's remembered was the heat during the reception.

The Roseville couple said the air conditioning was not working in the hall, and it was a 100+ degree day.They decided to take their case to Call Kurtis, and later to Judy Judy after the owner of the hall faxed a contract to the Call Kurtis team that was different than the one Kurtis received from the newly weds.

Sports Show on Hiatus

The Sports Show that airs Saturday and Sunday at 10:45 p.m. is on hiatus for the moment while CBS13 redevlopes their sports coverage, according to news director Cameryn Beck. And with that Arran Anderson's contract recently expired. In the meantime, Beck also stated they do plan to cover sports when it makes news. As for Arran, he plans to stay locally.

Local Anchor Survives Cancer Treatment...

Good Day Sacramento traffic anchor Tina Macuha recently found out she had Stage Zero breast cancer. According to her colleagues, she has always been very proactive about her health and because of that she was able to catch it early before it could spreed. Tina has undergone surgery to remove her breast's and she is currently resting at home making a full recovery before she returns back to the show. Recently a car was was held in Carmichael to help raise money to benefit the Susan G. Koman race for the cure of breast cancer awareness program. $5 from every car wash was donated. Tina plans to be return sometime in June 2009.

Temporary Change...

You may have notice a slight change during FOX40 News. Dennis Shanahan is now weather anchoring for the weekend night editions (as he did before, but now frequently), and Louisa Hodge, who weather anchored the weekend nights, is now reporting! And I did some investigation (well kind of)

News Director Brandon Mercer says it's a temporary change. "Dennis and Louisa both continue to do weather for FOX40." Mercer said. "Recently, Louisa discovered some fantastic story ideas about very unusual ways social networking is changing our lives from crime fighting to health, job finding to science. We wanted to give her more days to work on this series we're calling Louisa OnLine. You'll see some eye-opening stories soon on this, and you'll also continue seeing her doing weather from time to time."

NBC's Bureau Leaves Sacramento

Mike Luery has been the capitol correspondent in California appearing for NBC affiliates in San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego for several years, and that came to an end on Friday April 24. Luery released an e-mail going around about his journey.

"The Sacramento Bureau is closing down this week. My photographer Mykie Vang and I want you to know how much we've enjoyed working with you over the past three years.

As a reporter, you couldn't ask for a better beat than to cover demonstrations at the Capitol, political campaigns for president and of course the "Governator" Arnold Schwarzenegger. We've also followed important issues like education, jobs, gay rights, the environment and government, with a critical look at whether our tax dollars are being spent wisely or unwisely. And along the way, we've had the opportunity to cover stories on wildfires at Lake Tahoe, wild bears in the woods and even some wayward whales in the Delta.

It's been a great ride and I feel honored and privileged to have been given the chance to cover these stories for you over the past three years. I am an eternal optimist and believe that when a door closes, a window will open up for a new opportunity. Senior Reporter leaves News10

Mark Hedlund joined News10 on March 30, 1981... the day President Reagan was shot. Hedlund has covered all sorts of stories throughout Northern California including floods, fires, and his speciality... court appearance's.

Most people don't know this, but coincidentally Hedlund's son is also a general assignment reporter working for CBS in the Washington/ Idaho market since 2006.

Working almost 30 years in Sacramento, Hedlund has decided to leave. His last appearance was Friday April 17 on News10 at 5. He will continue to reside in Sacramento along with his wife, Beth. Hedlund will now be working at the state assembly speakers office.

The Sandra Cantu Investigation

The Sandra Cantu investigation received so much national attention after her body was discovered in a suitcase at an irrigation pond near her home in Tracy, Calif.

Slowly, and slowly the public information officer (PIO) gave very little information about the search during the daily news conference to the media. A memorial was set up outside of the mobile home park where Sandra resided. It grew just about everyday stretching at 20 ft. with outpouring of love and support.

Sandra went missing on Friday March 27. and day by day the search became very interesting and expanded locally, to nationally. Drawing media coverage from the San Francisco Bay area to Fresno, and networks such as NBC, ABC, and CNN.

Just days after her body was discovered an arrest was made early Saturday morning. Police arrested 28-year-old Melissa Huckabee, who lived in the mobile home park, and had told local media she reported a missing suitcase. After interviews with the police department, they said she was giving them different stories on each visit. Finally, she became emotional and confessed she was responsible for the death of Sandra Cantu. The community was outrage that a women could have done something like this... especially someone who was a Sunday school teacher at the church where investigators also searched. Sandra Cantu were friends with Melissa's 5-year-old daughter.

Now Melissa is in custody, and could be sentenced to life in prison. Sources also state that she was going through mental problems... just days before she was hospitalized, sources were told she swallowed small razor blades, that caused her to visit the hospital.

Former Sacramento Reporter now Correspondent

Miguel Almaguer, former KCRA 3 reporter from 2003-2006 has officially been named an NBC News Correspondent based from California. He will work out from their Burbank bureau and begins April 2. Almaguer will contribute to all NBC shows... including the Nightly newscast, the Today Show, and MSNBC. Almaguer is originally from the bay area, and graduated from San Francisco State in 2000. Prior to his promotion he worked for the NBC affiliate in Washington D.C for three years. Way to go Miguel!

Patty Souza has been the Chief Meteorologist at News10 for three years already forecasting the 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscast. Souza took over Elissa Lynn's position after she left to work for the state in 2006. Prior to joining News10, she was the morning/ afternoon Meteorologist at KCRA 3 since 2002. Trobules with 'Tent City' and the Media...

Recently, Tent City has gotten national attention, after Lisa Ling's special aired on the Oprah Show about tent cities growing in the U.S. including Sacramento. Tent City, which is located north of Downtown Sacramento along the American River has sprung housing as many as 1200 homeless people. Recently a homeless resident of tent city was upset after News10 showed up... last week, Cornell Barnard and his photographer were almost attacked after a women hit their camera.

On Friday, CBS 13 was going to go live for the 5 and 6 p.m. shows from tent city, but as reporter Koula Gianulias was preparing, she was threaten by one of the residents. "My photographer and I dropped by in the morning to shoot some video from a distance. We didn’t have any problems and a few people kindly chatted with us." Gianulias said. "Later in the afternoon, with our huge live truck, Tent City campers seemed much more uneasy. Right when my photographer jumped out of the truck a woman yelled at him and said she was going to grab her steak knife and cut his throat. Meanwhile another man started yelling at me…so we decided it was best to take off."

Right now the mayor of Sacramento is trying to move them into another location, where it's safe and where they can wash up... but some residents expressed they don't want to move.

On-Air Talent Update

We start off with Julie Watts, former KCRA Meteorologist... she's now freelancing for CBS 5- KPIX as a fill-in Meteorologist and Reporter.

Kristina Lee, former CW 31- CBS 13 reporter is in San Diego reporting for FOX 5 now. Lee was laid off in early 2008 when CBS was forced to make cuts throughout the country.

Michelle Liu, who was a reporter at FOX40 for a year is now a media specialist and consultant for UCLA. She Advises, train, and instruct's students in broadcast journalism by focusing on writing, editing, and web production's.

New Host!

There's a new face on News10! Anne Makovec joined the station on March 1st. as a Multimedia Journalist. She also used to freelance for KGO-TV ABC 7 News from San Francisco. Prior to that she was an anchor/ reporter for KION 46 in Salinas, Calif. and at other stations as well. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point.

Brian will be the new host of The Tonight Show starting June 1st from the NBC Studios in Burbank, Calif. Walt Gray not only anchors the morning newscast on KCRA from 4:30-7am, but also anchors the evening newscast for a half an hour at 5 p.m. Sounds like a long day at work, huh? Well not so much for him.

"I'm up at 3am....I get to work at 4am...I'm on the air from 4:30-7am and I leave work about 9am. The rest of my day is spent chasing my kids...picking them up from school...running errands and trying to stay on the good side of the wife. Pretty normal day! I'm back in from 3:30pm-5:45pm (the 5pm newscast). In bed by 8pm to do it all again."

Actually, doesn't sound pretty bad at all!

San Joaquin Bureau Reporters Move Up

KCRA moved up reporter Sharokina Shams late last year from reporting in the Modesto area to now in Sacramento.

And News10's Cornell Barnard is also reporting in Sacramento now, rather in the Modesto area as well.

Political reporter Kevin Riggs is now anchoring the morning editions of KCRA on the weekends and still reporting three days a week.

Teo Torres is general assignment reporting three days a week and anchoring the evening weekend editions.

Not sure how he does it, but Walt Gray is now anchoring the 5 p.m. newscast along with Edie Lambert AND anchoring the 5-7 a.m. broadcast.

Also reporters Leticia Ordaz and Sharokina Shams are now reporting weekday mornings rather than in the afternoon/ evenings.

And Anchor/ Reporter Pamela Wu will be leaving KCRA to work for the Dean at UC Davis School of Law as a Director of Marketing and Communications... She starts next week!

News10 political reporter Marcey Brightwell is no longer with News10, she left in January 2008 to Rose and Kindel Grayling Communications, a Sacramento lobbying firm as a Deputy Managing Director . "Standing in the hallways for hours at a time, referring to Big Five budget meeting takeouts, "I figured I just can't do this for another year." Said Brightwell in a statement to the bee. Prior to joining News10 in October 2001 (which I do remember that newscast) she was a Bureau Chief/Political Correspondent for Capitol Television News Service (CTNS) since 1994.

Amgen tour of California

Thousands of people lined up for the Amgen Prologue tour that ran through Downtown Sacramento Saturday morning to see some of the biggest names in cycling which included Lance Armstrong. Over a hundred police officers were on hand to control the crowds, but no arrest or drama was made. Many roads were also blocked off which kept traffic around Downtown Sacramento extremely slow. The Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau estimated with all these people in town it will bring in $8.5 million in revenue.

1. What decided you to take a reporting position while working at the desk?
My news director at the time I started, knew my goal was to report on T.V. He felt it would be a good way to become familiar with all the T.V. jargon, along with getting to know how T.V. news worked, if I started on the assignment desk.

2. What is an interesting/ unique fact most viewers don't know about you?
I was a background dancer in an MTV video back in the day, for a new wave group call The Units. My coworkers get a kick out of watching it today on YouTube! I was also with a professional dance company in San Francisco at that time.

3. What was your most embarrassing moment live on air?
Thank God, so far, I really don't have any since I've only been going live since last July. But if I had to say something, it would be my toss a few weeks ago about Clint Eastwood's movie Gran Torino. The words spewed out of my mouth, and I had no idea what I was talking about. My producer said my facial expression was very funny, once my package ran and I was off air for the moment.

4. If you weren't in the Journalism field today, what would you be doing?
Probably just spending more time with my family, doing more domestic/mom things.

5. What's your favorite singer/band or type of music?
Madonna, Earth, Wind & Fire. But really anything you could dance to.

6. Where did you attend school and major in?
University of San Francisco - BA in Mass Media Communications

7. What types of food's do you enjoy?
Japanese, Italian, Mexican!

8. Most people don't know who Wyatt is... could you explian? (lol)
Wyatt is my adorable German shepard/basset hound mix. Patrick and I were on assignment near Modesto, to cover an animal rescue in Stanislaus County. I asked for the cutest doggy to do my standup with, and they handed me Wyatt. I adopted him three days later!! I love, love, love him!!

9. Do you have any advice for someone who wants to be a TV reporter while in school?
Take advantage of any internships that come your way. Although you may be extremely busy, take the time somehow to fit that into your schedule. You'll benefit from it. If there is a school newspaper, volunteer to do any writing assignments. Write as much as you can. Your reporting will be so much better if you have a solid writing background.

10. Lastly, what was your first job while in high school or college?
Working at the Serramonte Mall in Daly City, at Expressions. It was a really cool stationery shop where lots of my friends worked.

News Director Out...

Emmy Award-Winning Stacy Owen has been the news director at News10 for almost 4 years and will be leaving the station at the end of February. "When I came to Sacramento, I had the goal of taking News10 to No. 1," Owen said in a statement to the Sacramento Bee. "I came, and I did that and transformed it to a multimedia news organization. I've accomplished what I set out to do." Prior joining News10 in August of 2005, she worked over 10 years at KRON 4 in San Francisco. Right now they are looking for a news director, and its unsure where Owen is off to next. I was thankful to meet Owen in early 2007 during a job shadow at the station and chat for a few moments.

News10 Cuts...

For so many years covering breaking news, and bringing sunset views for the closing of the 5pm newscast, News10 is no longer using their helicopter anymore due to the economic times. If you watched a lot of News10, then you probably notice in 2007 they slowly used their helicopter... every morning they used to have traffic updates with Angel Cardenas or Julie Durda, or just nice views during the weather segment's, but that has all changed. No word if air10 will return. Now, KCRA can say they their the only ones in the sky in HD.

Also there are talks that "Big Red", News10's Satellite truck maybe sold! Another sign of the troubled economic times. And News10 staff have been told to take furloughs or 5 days of unpaid leave between now to March 2009. News10 is not the only station doing this, Gannett, the owner of News10 has forced TV stations and newspapers across the country to do the same. I recently notice one of their live trucks is just plain red without any logos... could mean a money issue as well.

Now the news at noon is broadcast from their HD studios in Downtown Sacramento. Now the place is owned by Verizon Wireless selling cell phones. October 2008 was their last broadcast.

Today President Elect- Barack Obama held his Inauguration in Washington D.C. with over 2 million people witnessing history in the making in front of the nation's capital. Two local TV Journalists Dale Schornack, News10 and Louisa Hodge, FOX40 attended the ceremony with reports throughout the past few days. Our very own Mayor Kevin Johnson also attended the ceremony, as a matter a fact Kevin Johnson was asked by Larry King to be on his show Sunday night as part of Larry's inauguration coverage. So much has happened to FOX40 in the past few months. Slowly people started to come and go during FOX40's renovation... In fact former CBS13 executive producer Brandon Mercer became the news director after Tom Burke was fired.

Former weeknight anchor Thomas Drayton started a new path at FOX29 in Philadelphia as the 5 and 10 p.m. anchor.

FOX40 hired then former Sacramento reporter Jaime Garza (early-mid 90s w/ News10) as Donna Cordova's new co-anchor weeknights. Garza had been with CBS 2/ KCAL 9 as a reporter and anchor for over 10 years after he was laid off when CBS made cuts throughout the country.

FOX40 got a new set with kitchen cafe center for FOX40 Live. The new set looks small and everything seems crammed. But they needed a new one after it felt like forever they broadcasted from the same previous set. And they got live trucks with stickers which was nice touch to it too.

According to a local source Gardner is only temporarily anchoring until Lisa Gonzales returns back from maternity leave which should be sometime this spring. After a year off TV, one of Sacramento's best Journalist is back on air.

1. Leticia, what interested you in becoming a TV Journalist?

Ever since I was old enough to talk I would ask my mom and dad questions about every subject. I was always a curious child in search of answers. I enjoyed watching the news and learning about political events. My family says they knew journalism was my calling since I was about two.

2. If you weren't working in this industry, what would you be doing today?

This is the career of my dreams. I really can't imagine choosing a different path.

3. What was one of your most embarrassing moment's on air?

Luckily, it wasn't live TV, but I remember doing a stand-up with a big boa constrictor at the Fresno County Fair. It wrapped itself around me so tight, I could barely breathe. Luckily, its trainer was right next to us and helped me get free. I'm so glad it wasn't Live TV.

4. What's a memorable story you were covering in your broadcasting career and why?

The Scott Peterson murder trial is by far the most memorable story I've covered in my career. It's a story that captivated people everywhere, and attracted media from not just the nation, but the world. Working for KCRA 3, we were able to bring our viewers the best coverage from the search for Laci Peterson, to the verdict, and the sentencing phase.

5. What type of music do you like? Any artisit's people in particular?

I like all types of music. Some of my favorite artist's are Gwen Stefani, Pink, Nelly Furtado, and One Republic.

6. What is your favorite restaurant in Sacramento?

I can't choose just one. I love Sushi Cafe, and Zocolo, and Bistro 33.

7. What do you enjoy to do on your own time when not at work?

I enjoy spending time with my husband, and my family and friends when I'm not at work.
I also love to travel to Cabo San Lucas, and Maui. Some of my favorite outdoor activities are horseback riding, ATVing, zip lining or just relaxing on the beach.

8. What is an interesting/ unique fact about you people don't really know?
People may not know that I started my career in Elko, Nevada as a one man band reporter.
I carried about 60 pounds of gear through the desert, covering everything from wildfires, to the release of a bald eagle that was nursed back to health.

9. What was you're first job before becoming a Journalist in you're early years and what did you do?

While I was in college I was a student assistant for the Dean's office at Sacramento State.
After college, I immediately went to Elko, NV to start my first job as a journalist.

10. And lastly, what advice do you have for someone getting ready to graduate college or still in school wanting to be a TV reporter?

I would say you have to believe in yourself and be willing to work long, hard hours in a small market. If it's something you really want to pursue, go for it and don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. Internships are a great way to see if you really want to get into the business. Make sure to network with professionals and ask a lot of questions. Your reason for being a journalist has to go beyond just wanting to be on TV. I wish all of you future journalists the best of luck. :)

Governor Signs New Bills...

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008 Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a few bills that will go into affect soon. One of the bills he signed was legislation making California the first state in the United States to require restaurants and fast food places to post nutritional facts on menus so consumers know what their eating presented by Sen. Alex Padilla. Gov. Schwarzenegger held a press conference along with other senators at an Elk Grove Chili's on Elk Grove Florin and Calvine roads Tuesday afternoon. Now restaurants will have until January 2011 to comply or can be fined.

After 6 years working in the Sacramento market, Thomas Drayton will be leaving the station sometime this fall from FOX40. Reports from the bee say that he will be moving on into a top 5 market which include of course New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Dallas. Also as expected the morning show is going to be expanding from 4:30-9 a.m. weekdays with a new face to debut, he's been working in radio for several years in Sacramento and next month will debut on the morning show... Paul Robbins is going to go co-anchor along with Nataile Bomke starting September 8th. So as predicted a lot of changes are on their way.

Lights, Camera, Big Fun!

It's that time of year again and the California State Fair is back! This time running longer than in the previous years. This year the Fair's theme is Hollywood! So everyone's a star when they walk in.

They also have an exhibit where you can play with cats through using a string. It was funny to see the cats come out of their case when the player would leave the both trying to still follow the string.

Also at the fair you can get you're picture taken at the chroma key wall where the Meteorologist at News10 broadcast everyday live. And get to be on T.V. .....Surprisingly I was on and Dale referred to me saying "Patty is he taking our picture, Lets pose" because I had a my camera out, although I wasn't snapping pictures, I was video taping through my digital camera.

Finally! After 2 years with no official anchor for the 6 and 11 p.m. weekday newscast, after having Sarah Gardner, Dave Walker (and sometimes Teo Torres) KCRA has hired a new anchor. His name is Gulstan Dart and he comes from Seattle's CBS affiliate and he will debut on Monday September 8th, 2008 at 6 p.m. ! Looking forward to it

So I guess this clears it out that Walt Gray will return to his regular duties in the morning shift, and not anchor the 11 p.m. with Edie like he was doing for weeks, but since the Olympics occur ed and staff are required to stay until their over in the early morning hours... Edie has been solo. And Teo will continue to solo anchor the 10 p.m. on My58 and report throughout KCRA 3 at 5 or 6.

I was at Fox40 and there was some video that was supposed to run with kids running through a fire hydrant that had it’s top off on a really hot day. The video didn’t run so I said…”well just trust me they were relieving themselves.” The whole studio busted up.

4. What kind of music do you listen to? Any artist's in particular?
Anything, but I’m not fond of country.

5. What is an interesting/ unique fact most viewers don't know about you?
I’m pretty much an open book on the air so I don’t think much would surprise anyone.

6. What is your favorite restaurant in Sacramento and what do you like to order?
I had a great fish dinner at G.V. Hurley’s recently.

I was a lifeguard

8. For most people who don't know you are married to Walt Gray morning anchor at KCRA, how did you guys meet each other?
It was at a media event and we just started talking and laughing about different things. We just really like talking with each other which is probably why we’ve been able to get through rough times together.

Probably the Halloween scare that ended up on you tube.

11. Most people don't know this but you also worked at KTXL- FOX40 in Sacramento before going to Atlanta (NBC) and coming back to Sacramento in 2001 (News10), at one point what part of you decided you wanted to do weather?
I was in college and my teacher asked me to give weather a try on our college t.v. station. I told her I didn’t know much about weather. I liked it then went on to get a second degree in meteorology.

12. Lastly any words for someone who wants to be a TV Meteorologist and is still in college? Start taking meteorology classes early and take as many journalism classes as you can to get some on camera experience.

FOX40 Update

FOX40 is in store for a lot of changes that will be occurring slowly in the near future... First off we can expect new talent in the months. Reporters Michelle Liu and Melissa Remick are no longer with the station after contracts not being renewed. Rowena Shaddox has more live shots, Jamie Soriano and Bethany Crouch have traded morning/ evening positions. Tomorrow one of the new reporters will debut, Dennis Shanahan from CBS 13 has joined the station and heres what he left me in my inbox.

"I've completed my contract with CBS 13 (KOVR) and have accepted an offer from Fox 40. My last day at Channel 13 was July 31st. I start reporting at Fox 40 this week. The decision to leave KOVR was mine. I'd been a reporter there for about eight years, and the time was just right for a change. I kind of felt like I wasn't growing there any more. Fox 40 offered me a great opportunity to grow in a talented news department that's doing some really exciting things. It feels great to be joining the team. I can't wait to get started."

As for Melissa Remick she has this to say to us

""I was so blessed to work with such amazing talent/ good people over at Fox40 for 9 years. Back in 2006 my husband and I decided to homeschool our children. During that time management was extremely flexible with me regarding my schedule and allowed me to work on Friday nights only. I never worked at Fox40 under a contract. My position was always considered freelance. For years, it was the best of both worlds.

New management took over recently, and that part time schedule became no longer available. Since I am committed to homeschooling my kids, I said goodbye to 40. I will absolutely miss the adventure of reporting, but I know that I've made the right decision for my family.

I just want to publicly thank my husband Tony for all his support through the years. He moved with me all over the country as I started my career in broadcasting. New Jersey, Montana, New York, and finally California. He helped make a dream come true. Thanks Tony.. for believing in me. : )

Ron Hyde is back in local TV and will soon start co-anchoring with Lisa Gonzales from CBS 13 weekday mornings starting Monday September 2nd, 2008 from 5-7 am. If you remembered Ron, he used to be the sports director for KCRA 3 from 1992-2006 until he decided to take a break from this business and become the director of Media for an online venture at MaxPreps.com for high school sports where he elevated their online video production by producing features, highlights packages, and short subject documentaries featuring high school athletes and coaches all online. Prior to coming to Sacramento in the early 90s he anchored various sports programs for CNN and hosted the Atlanta Hawks halftime show on cable channel TBS. One World, One Night...

Today KCRA and Cal Expo sponsored an event for the opening day of the Olympics from Beijing, China. The event started at 5 p.m. with diverse opening acts at the race track in Cal Expo. Teo Torres and Edie Lambert hosted the special broadcast event that aired at 7 p.m. KCRA is expected to broadcast at various locations for this special event. Governor Makes a Tough Decision on California State Employees...

Today Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed an order to cut down about 10,000 jobs for temporary state workers and lowering the pay to $6.55 an hour to about 200,000 state employees to make sure the state can pay its bills without a state budget. The governor does plan to reverse those moves once lawmakers come to a budget agreement which means that the state would have to rehire temporary workers and give employees their whole pay back, but its been over a month and still lawmakers haven't decided to bridge a $15.2 billion shortfall in a $101 billion general fund budget. So we will have to wait and see what goes on from there as we head into August. The governor did apologize to the families that are already struggling financially to the media but he had to choice left.

Local Landmark Store Moves...

Local landmark Corti Brothers grocery store will be moving soon from its current location on Folsom Blvd. and 59th ave in East Sacramento (close to midtown) after the landlord of the building decided to rent to a new tenant which will bring a better business for Nancy Cleavinger who is the landlord. It's not sure as to where the store will move to, right now they are trying to find a new location, but its been a landmark for people in the area, primarily the elderly who have lived in East Sacramento for decades and believe me a lot of old homes are in that area. We'll have to wait and see...

Los Angeles mini Earthquake

The Los Angeles earthquake wasn't as bad as what it could have been but it did cause trouble mainly in the East Los Angeles County of Chino Hills Tuesday morning. Sacramento's only reporter to report from the 5.4 earthquake scene in Los Angeles County near Diamond Bar was Pamela Wu from KCRA 3 and she had a series of reports for the 10 and 11 p.m. show. Only CBS13 and FOX40 carried live reports from reporters of the LA market during the late night newscast. You bet reporters from Los Angeles were doing tons of reports for other affiliates statewide and possibly across the country. The last time Los Angeles was struck was in 1994, and the governor says this is just a wake up call for residents to always be prepared.

It's been one year since I created this blog on a Saturday morning July 21st, 2007. I remember the night before I was thinking to myself going to bed I had so much I wanted to say about local news for people who might be interested and curious to be posted online. I have a huge passion and drive for this career, I'm probably obsess with it...there is not one day I don't watch the news (unless I'm on vacation or working) and I enjoy talking to professionals in this field that will help me be successful in whatever I do. Teo Torres has been with KCRA 3 since January 2008, prior to that he came from San Francisco where he worked as a morning anchor for KRON 4, an independent TV station since 2001. Teo can be seen on the nightly 10 p.m. newscast of KCRA on the My58 Channel weeknights and occasionally fills in anchoring when needed in the evening and reports for the 6 p.m. show.

1. What interest did you have in becoming a TV Journalist?
I was raised by a very politically active mother. She made sure I knew about the world around me. I guess my interest in current events came from her and my upbringing. She is an incredible woman and to this day is a hero of mine. I remember as a child recording funny newscasts into my tape recorder, so I guess you could call that practice.

2. What was you're most embarrassing moment on live TV?
Wow, that is a tough one. I guess it would have to be sneezing during a live shot. For some reason I've always sneezed in threes....and yes, that translated to about 15 seconds of me sneezing live on the air. ALLERGIES!!!

3. What type of music do you listen to? Do you have a favorite singer or band you particularly like?
My favorite group of all time has to be Stone
Temple Pilots, although I really love the Indigo Girls as well. These 2
bands are about as different as you can get. My tastes run the spectrum.
I also love classical, Dave Matthews, Frank Sinatra, Def Leopard...you name
it.

4. What is an interesting/ unique fact about you most people don't know?
I think I sing pretty well. Back when i was a much younger newsman in my first news market I used to sing in and often win Karaoke contests. The prize was my spending money. You don't make much at your first job.

5. What was you're first job before working in the broadcasting news industry?
My first job was a stockboy at "Save-Mor" drug store in Buhl Idaho. I was 14 years old at the time. I grew up in the kind of town where everyone knows the pharmacist and hangs on his every word. Everyone wanted to be a stockboy at that store. I lucked out and got it.

6. What do you think of Sacramento so far in the few months you've lived here? Any difference from San Francisco where you came from?
I absolutely love Sacramento and plan to make this my families home. The people here
are so friendly, everyone really cares about each other. I also love the location. You can't beat the beautiful rivers, the mountains to the north, wine country all around and the Bay Area a short drive away. As far as San Francisco, of course it is an incredible city but there soooo many
people. Honestly I won't miss the lines for everything and driving around and around to find a parking place. I also won't miss the chilly weather there.

7. What do you normally watch on TV on you're free time?
Considering the fact that I have 3 children (all boys including a toddler) I don't have a
lot of time to watch TV. When I do get time I most often watch the Discovery Channel or News. I also love Entourage.

8. Found any favorite restaurants/ hot spots in Sacramento yet you enjoy?
Again, this goes back to the 3 children factor, but I am really impressed
with the sushi I've eaten in town. I'm also a big Ill Fornaio fan, try
their butternut squash ravioli it's out of this world!

9. Where can you be found on the weekends?
Usually at one of my sons baseball games or out riding bikes. During the winter we love to
snowboard. When my wife and I can get away we enjoy touring wine country.

10. Where did you attend college and major in?
I attended the University of Idaho and majored in Communications.

11. Lastly, what advice would you give to a young Journalism student in
college wanting to be a reporter in TV?
It's a tough, ultra competitive business. Be prepared to pay your dues and put in long hours for little compensation at first. While it may seem glamorous to some it really is an often difficult day to day career but can be incredibly rewarding and satisfying.

CBS13 recently launched a new website that allows viewers to send in their questions that they have particularly on any news story or event going on. The website is http://www.askingquestions.tv/
but to send a question, it takes you right back to their website where you fill out a form and submit it. So if you have a question? Then send it. They pick the questions they feel should be read on-air and others possibly responded by e-mail. Some people probably wont get an answer for a few weeks because of the amount of questions received. But it doesn't hurt to try...

Relocating two Former Reporters...

Remember Bora Kim former reporter for the CBS13 San Joaquin Valley bureau? She started this week at WDIV-TV NBC 4 in Detroit, Michigan as a general assignment reporter, where Pallas Hupe worked for a while there in market 11. It's unsure why Bora was only with CBS13 for over a year but reports online that weren't confirmed were saying she got fired. She left sometime in late 2006 or early 2007, and that's where Edmundo Aguilar was hired to report in the Stockton area.

And FOX40 Morning reporter Kye Martin started last month at the CW affiliate in Chicago, IL as a traffic anchor/reporter on Navteq/Traffic.com

Five People Killed in Stanislaus County...

At least five people were killed Tuesday afternoon after a van carrying relatives fell into canal in Westley, California southwest of Modesto. According to local authorities the four people in the SUV were on their way home to Lodi after working in an Orchard in the town of Westley earlier that day when suddenly they crashed into a truck owned by United Site Services Inc. based from Sacramento. Reports of witnesses say the force of the impact drove them to fall into the canal which occurred at the intersection. Hours later authorities pulled out the SUV Tuesday evening with four bodies sill in the SUV and the driver of the septic truck was pulled out earlier that day and was pronounced dead. When family members of the workers were interviewed by TV stations they were upset blaming the divers for not taking quicker action because they were 'immigrants' according to a family member interviewed by CBS13. Later in the interview an authority said it had nothing to do with who they were, it was because of the current moving fast and didn't want to take any chances.
Still investigators are on the scene trying to piece together what determined the crash.

Walt Gray is now anchoring the 11 p.m. newscast along with Edie Lambert, It's strange to see him anchor the 11 because he normally anchors the noon newscast from Arden Fair Mall... But he still anchor's 5-7 a.m. along with Deirdre Fitzpatrick, so yes he is working overnight.
"I'm on with Edie until further notice at 11pm.we'll see how it goes.... i think that's the line.so far..it's been going very well". So who's anchoring the noon newscast? It varies but mainly Adrienne Bankert is.

Sad News for Long time KCRA Viewers...

Dave Walker and Lois Hart have been one of the most well known anchors in Sacramento for nearly 20 years. And towards the end of this year they are expected to retire! That's right! According to Sac Bee's 21Q says over a phone interview, Lois Hart confirmed today that they plan to do a lot of traveling once they retire. So it will definitely be sad to see these familiar faces leave KCRA, the station will definitely have another look to them with a few fresh faces possibly by next year.

In the coming days Northern California will see a batch of warm weather! Tuesday through Thursday are expected to be extremely warm with highs over 100 degrees and the air quality really bad especially in the foothills where the smoke from local blazes has sunk in. This is repeat of what we saw a few weeks ago from fires that were sparked by lighting in rural areas around Sacramento County. Experts are encouraging people to car pool to work/ school or use local transportation, reduce the use of anything that consumes gas. Local community centers will be opening up this week for people to cool off who don't have air conditioning

FOX40 Update...

It's been confirmed that FOX40 Morning News anchor Evan Michael has left the station to find different opportunities elsewhere. If you remember he joined the station in June 2007 from the NBC affiliate in Colorado Springs/Pueblo in Colorado. Its unknown as to what he's doing now, but I will definitely get an answer.

Also I notice FOX40 has recently had weather and sports beat talent co-anchor on the news. For example they had Kristina Werner in for Donna co-anchoring and Mark Demsky (Weekend sports anchor) co-anchor with Terri Cox.

And not sure if it was the news director's idea, but now reporters have been asked not to sign off air anymore which is what CBS 13 does, from what I heard its to save time wasted on-air. Personally I think reporters should be allowed to sign off. But everyone has their own idea for a reason.

Yet another TV personality breaks their arm, but this time it wasn't hanging out with friends like what happened to Eileen Javora from KCRA 3... It was riding a bike. Angel Cardenas News10 Traffic reporter/ anchor was riding his bike at 19 mph when he fell off and dislocated his shoulder, he tried to used his hands to keep from scratching up his 'million dollar face' according to Kelly Jackson, but still landed on his shoulder... It's been a slow healing process for him, and is still recovering. If you watched News10 Good Morning the past few weeks he has been wearing an arm supporter. Get well Angel!

Cristi Jessee is one of the new Multi-Media Journalist at News10 which means she edits, shoots and reports her own stories also known as a one man band. Jessee came to News10 in 2005 as a assignment editor from Los Angeles where she was an entertainment producer for the CBS affiliate which she field produced red carpet events and award shows, screening movies, and interviewing celebrities. Prior to that she has worked as photographer, reporter, assignment editor and production assistant throughout her career in Minnesota, Arkansas, and North Dakota and knows the business inside out. In fact she is still a Line Producer for Hollywood Close-ups inc. a local TV show from Los Angeles hosted by film critic David Sheehan. You can catch Jessee primarily weeknights on News10.

His last day will be in July when his contract ends, he decided not to renew it and is ready for something different or possibly in another shop. Hazy Skies Across Northern California...

Sunday June 22nd, 2008 would have been a good day to stay indoors and cool off as the sky was very unhealthy for sensitive groups, people who suffer from allergies. Over 500 wildfires were burning across Northern California that were sparked by lighting on Saturday. As you can imagine many firefighters from across the state came to help calm down the fires before they get out of control. Just to name a few fires were sparked in Napa County quickly moving into a mostly rural area of Solano County, the on going Santa Cruz fire which started on Friday, some parts in Placer County and the Tuolumne-Calaveras area as well. Even though the fires were sparked miles away from Sacramento, it was very hazy which reminded me of Los Angeles during the summer when it gets extremely polluted. The picture above was taken southbound on Interstate 5. Besides the fires we saw very warm temperatures Friday and Saturday that reached over 100 degrees.... very hot and humid across Northern California as the first day of summer rolled on in.

The requirements are that your in high school and have access to high speed Internet and certain software's to upload videos from home to the playbook website, most of the equipment will be provided for you. The duties included as the sideline reporter for KCRA is interviewing fellow high school students and coaches, shooting video footage of sports practices and games, and writing and editing your work, of course KCRA will also provide hands-on training. This is a great opportunity to get exposed to a TV News station and get connections with people in the field.

CBS 13 to Broadcast Digtially Soon...

It's been confirmed that CBS 13 and CW 31 in Sacramento will be broadcasting in High Definition in February 2009. The set would probably get tweaked for some minor changes but you never know, personally I would like to see a new morning set for CW 31 after they had the same one since they first started the show in the mid-late 90s. Now we have to wait and see when News10, FOX40 and Univision 19 will be making the change.

Yolo County Mourns Deputy...

Yolo County Sheriff Deputy Jose Diaz died on duty when he stopped a driver on suspicion of drunk driving in Dunnigan, California north of Sacramento. When Diaz stopped the driver they were near a dead end, interestingly the driver turned the car facing the police officer. When Diaz walked up to the car, he notice there was no driver and found a four-month old girl in the back seat. Seconds later someone shot at Diaz when he tried to cover himself at his patrol car as it shows on the dashboard camera according to officers, luckily he was able to call for back up on his radio despite being wounded. According to the Sheriff's department Diaz was shot by a rifle either on his shoulder or chest where his bullet-proof vest didn't protect him and was taken to Woodland Memorial Hospital in critical condition where he died early Monday morning. As for the baby in the car was not hurt and was takin into child protective services and is reportedly the suspect's daughter. The suspect was later arrested after an officer spotted him in the brush near the freeway. They also found a caliber assault rifle gun lying outside a restroom near where the suspect was found. The suspect is known to have a criminal record, but his family says he was trying to leave a previous life he lived after getting out of prison. The suspect has been placed in the Sacramento County jail on murder charge with other charges pending as wll.

Local Father Beats His Son to Death...

On Saturday, June 14th just after 10 p.m. the Stanislaus County 911 Call Center received calls from residents of an area where a man was beating a young kid at a rural intersection in Turlock, California. According to the phone calls people were reporting that a pickup truck was on the wrong side of the road parked and witnesses saw the suspect brutally abusing the young boy by throwing him to the ground, witnesses also said that people tried to stop him but it didn't help because they were also being thrown to the ground as well by the suspect. Finally the Stanislaus County sheriff's helicopter arrived to the scene where they landed at a cow pasture... A police officer who was on the helicopter told the suspect to step away from the baby with his weapon drawin at him... the suspect didn't comprend and the officer was force to shot, killing the suspect, the 2-year-old boy was takin to a local hospital where he died shortly. The officer who shot at the suspect has been placed on administrative leave until the outcome of the investigation is solved.

Phase Two of FIX I-5

Friday June 13th, 2008 was the second phase to continue fixing Interstate 5 after a week off. I was there for about a few hours and it actually took a while to get set up and cars to get off the Interstate. I got there 5 minutes before 8 p.m. and cars were still going by 10 minutes later until about 8:30 p.m. the southbound lanes were finally shut and crews came in with their equipment.

A new look was added along I-5 to spice things up in Sacramento which the county wanted... they are suppose to be colors that represent the city of Sacramento, so we can expect a few minor changes when the project is complete in early July.

Only a few media crews showed up, however that was not the case one week ago when the first 10 minutes were devoted to the Fix I-5 project. Probably because most of us already knew what to expect from it and have our own routes to get through it.

Cal Trans work crews started tagging the roadway, I must say it was a bit odd to see someone out in the middle of the Interstate walking, its normally something we don't see everyday.

And finally they start drilling the ground and starting the project nearly an hour later than expected. A few on lookers watching along the highway taking photos, people watching from the hotel windows along the tower bridge and shoppers from Old Sacramento. Either way it was a great experience to see how they were starting the project. The second phase will be done by Monday morning June 23rd.

NBC Washington Bureau Anchor Dies...

Sadly one of America's well known TV Journalist passed away Friday, June 13th, 2008 after collapsing at the NBC Washington bureau preparing voiceovers for his weekly broadcast. Russert had been with NBC since the early 90's commonly known for hosting "Meet the Press" that aired every weekend and his reports during the nightly newscast with Brian Williams. Russert had just returned from Europe on vacation where he celebrated his son's graduation from Boston College. Russert was 58...

Another new look for News10.net as the finishing touches were completed June 12th, 2008 with brand new features and ways for viewers to create their own profiles. You can now be a member of News10.net that allows you to upload pictures, write blogs, share comments with users, and communicate with News10 people provided by SiteLife. Everything is redesigned and more changes are possible in the future... A lot of comments from viewers saying too much advertisement and small text on the new website, so we'll have to see what goes on from there. A reason why News10 decided to go with SiteLife was because the previous site they were with (Topix) had some users abusing their privilege by hiding behind their anonymity... and they hope this will stop and make it pleasant for everyone else. News10 has also been voted best TV website in Northern California in 2005 and has won many awards.
